Welcome Mississippi College Sports Teams at MC Choctaw Fanfare 2014

Mississippi College alumni, fans and friends are invited to the MC Choctaw Fanfare 2014 to welcome the players & coaches, take pictures and enjoy a delicious meal.

The August 16 event at the A.E. Wood Coliseum should get the MC family fired up as the university’s athletic teams return to NCAA Division II and Gulf South Conference action this fall. MC sports teams played in NCAA Division II and the Birmingham-based GSC from 1972 to 1996. The two-hour festivities begin that Saturday at 5 p.m.

Led by new head coach John Bland, the Mississippi College Choctaws football team will be out in full force along with the school’s soccer squads, cross country, and volleyball teams. All MC fall sports will be represented. MC leaders including President Lee Royce and Athletic Director Mike Jones are expected to be on hand greeting visitors.

Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children between the ages of 5 to 12. Door prizes will go to every ticket holder.

The 5,000-student Christian university is making the transition to NCAA Division II after being part of the Texas-based American Southwest Conference and NCAA Division III since 1997.

Sponsored by the Office of Alumni Affairs, the new event should attract staffers of MC’s campus radio station STAR 93.5 for a live remote at the Golden Dome, says general manager Doug Amacker.

Mississippi College opens off its 2014 football season with a September 6 contest on the road against Belhaven University in Jackson.

A big crowd is expected at Robinson-Hale Stadium on Saturday September 13 as the Choctaws face the University of North Alabama for this season’s first home game in Clinton. Consistently among the strongest Gulf South Conference teams for years, UNA is ranked No. 7 in the nation in a “Sporting News” pre-season poll. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

One of the 2014 football season highlights will see Valdosta State come to town to face the Choctaws during the university’s 2014 Homecoming on October 18. The game at Robinson-Hale Stadium kicks off at 3 p.m. that Saturday.
