Office of Public Safety

General Duties

  • The Office of Public Safety is duly authorized, directed and empowered to serve as a patrolling unit for Mississippi College.
  • The Office of Public Safety provides security for Mississippi College and shall be mindful of and dedicated to the protection of the safety and general welfare of students, faculty, staff, administration and guests of Mississippi College.
  • The Office of Public Safety is responsible for the control, regulation, and flow of traffic on Mississippi College property.
  • The Office of Public Safety is, therefore, instructed to establish and maintain communications with the officially recognized civil and criminal law enforcement authorities.
  • When and if the need arises, on-duty Office of Public Safety personnel are authorized and directed to make a citizen's arrest of any and all persons creating disturbances against the general peace, interfering with the security of the physical plant, facilities, or grounds, or interfering with or disturbing the safety and the general welfare of the Mississippi College community.
  • When such a citizen's arrest is necessary, the Office of Public Safety shall, as promptly as possible, and beforehand if reasonable, notify the civil or criminal law enforcement authorities to come and render assistance as needed and necessary.
  • The members of the Office of Public Safety will exercise fairness in the administration of their duties.
  • All personnel of the Office of Public Safety shall become personally familiar with the total plant of Mississippi College and the standard operating procedures of the office.
  • Employees of the Office of Public Safety are hired to perform duties according to the satisfaction set forth by the Administration of Mississippi College. Documentation of performances will be kept on file. Complaints and/or repeated accounts of improper job performances may result in employees being called in for counseling by the Director and/or disciplinary action.
