STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM
France Summer Exchange Program
This program will provide participants with an extensive study of
the French language, and help them gain an appreciation of the country's
culture. It will also impart an awareness and understanding of the
economic, social and cultural reality of modern France. Participants
will receive up to six undergraduate credits through Mississippi College.
The program will be held in the beautiful seaside city of Montpellier,
capital of the Languedoc-Rousillion region. This is an ideal location
for summer study because of its well-known university, climate, and
attractive landscape. The central location offers students the possibility
of visiting other major centers of culture, as well as famous beaches
to the south and mountains to the north.
Housing
Participants will live in La Residentiale, a modern apartment/hotel
style accomodation similar to a Residence Inn in the United States.
Two students will share a studio apartment, with a fully equiped
kitchen and a private bath. It is centrally located near the historical
downtown, classrooms and shopping areas of Montpellier. It provides
a very safe and comfortable living environment. There is a swimming
pool and a tennis court on the hotel grounds.
Food allowance of approximately $10.00 a day will be provided for
each student. Grocery stores and restaurants are near the hotel. Students
can cook in their apartment to save money.
Academics
Participants may receive up to six credit hours; three credit hours
in a language course and three credit hours for French Culture and
Civilization. Language courses, beginner, intermediate, and advanced
and the French Cullture course will be taught by a French professor
from Montepllier and by Dr. Debbie Pierce of Mississippi College.
There will be three organized day tours to places of interest and
visits addressing distinctive features of this French region.
Two and one half hour courses will be held five days a week for three
weeks.
All Mississippi College students and students from any other American
College or University in good academic standing are eligible. College
graduates, staff members, and members of the commmunity at-large may
also participate in the program. Previous knowledge of French is preferred
but not required.
