Mississippi College began a journey toward becoming a “strengths-based campus” in 2009. Using Gallup’s StrengthsQuest assessment tool, we are committed to helping students identify their top five strengths and providing resources for setting goals that put those strengths into meaningful action.
Grounded in positive psychology theory, a strengths approach starts with identifying an individual’s positive traits and helps them develop their full potential by using their strengths to make decisions involving academics, careers, leadership and relationships.
MC began piloting the use of StrengthsQuest in 2009 with many of our student leaders. Beginning in the fall of 2012 and going forward, all incoming freshman will take the assessment as part of their Blue&Gold 101 course. This will begin building a common language and culture of strengths.
We believe every student at Mississippi College has the potential to do well. We want to help MC students identify their talents, develop those talents into strengths, and direct those strengths toward activities and experiences that will help them succeed.
