Be It Enacted by the Mississippi College Student Senate that:
1. The Vice President of the Student Government Association should refer all adopted legislation to the office of the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Dean of Students.
2. The President of the Student Government Association shall make a monthly report to Senate regarding the status of legislation which has been previously referred to the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Dean of Students.
1. During the Spring semester, a Matthew Edwin Bradford Senator of the Year shall be selected by majority vote of the Student Senate.
2. Senators shall be allowed to speak on behalf of the nominees.
3. The recipient shall be recognized at the annual Honors Convocation.
1. All senators shall be required to complete four Student Government Association service hours each semester. In the Fall, Senators will be required to work the Student Council Leadership Workshop as an additional service hour.
2. Student Government Association service hours shall include working the polls during elections, supervising Student Government Association sells sales and sign-ups, volunteering to help with events sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, and other Student Government Association activities as determined by the Senate President.
3. Senators who have not completed three hours of Student Government Association service at the end of a semester shall be fined ten dollars for each uncompleted hour. These funds shall be paid to the Student Government Association Scholarship Fund.
1. The Food Services Committee shall meet monthly with the manager of food services. The
Committee shall recommend improvements to food services.
2. The Campus Improvements Committee shall recommend any physical improvements to
Mississippi College's campus, excluding the residence halls.
3. The Residence Life Committee shall recommend improvements for the residence halls and the policies which govern them.
4. The Academic Affairs Committee shall meet regularly with the Vice President of Academic Affairs. The committee shall recommend legislative improvements to current academic policies. The Cabinet Secretary of Academic Affairs shall also serve as a member of the Academic Affairs Committee.
5. The Student Services Committee shall recommend improvements to any aspect of student life on Mississippi College's campus.
6. The Elections Committee shall recommend improvements to the laws which govern Elections. Other non-legislative duties of this committee are specified in Title IV of the Bylaws for the Student Government Association of Mississippi College. The Elections Committee shall be comprised of the presidents of each academic class, the Elections Commissioner, and the Deputy Elections Commissioner.
7. The Documents and Protocol Committee shall regularly examine the Bylaws of the Student Government Association of Mississippi College and the Constitution for the Student Government Association of Mississippi College and recommend revisions or Amendments to unify these documents. The President, the President Pro Tempore, the Parliamentarian, and the Secretary of the Student Senate shall comprise this committee, as well as the Student Government President and Chief Justice. The President of the Student Senate shall serve as chairperson of this committee.
Be it enacted by the Mississippi College Student Senate that:
1. The President shall appoint, with the approval of the Student Senate, the following Cabinet members:
a. A secretary of Academic Affairs to serve on the Academic Council and to serve as a liaison between the Academic Council and the Student Senate.
b. A Secretary of Athletic Affairs to promote Mississippi College athletics.
c. A Secretary of Minority Affairs to represent the interests of minority students.
d. A Secretary of Community Affairs to promote and aid in organizing events and partnerships between Mississippi College and the community.
e. The President may appoint additional Cabinet members with the approval of the Student Senate. The President’s Cabinet will meet monthly unless otherwise directed by the President.
2. The President shall appoint, with the approval of the Student Senate, and Elections Commissioner to chair the Elections Committee and to set the dates for all Student Government Association elections. The Elections Commissioner must be a graduating senior.
3. The President shall appoint, within the first forty-five days of his or her term, a Chairperson(s) of the Homecoming Committee. The Chairperson shall appoint and direct a committee responsible for planning, organizing, and executing all Student Government Association organized Homecoming activities.
1. The Campus Activities Board shall consist of thirty or fewer members.
2. In the Fall, all Campus Activities Board members shall be required to work the Student Council Leadership Workshop.
1. The Chief Justice shall have the authority to expel any member of the Judicial Council who has accumulated two absences from Judicial Council meetings within a semester.
1. Each member of the Executive Council shall prepare and submit to the incoming Secretary of the Student Government Association not later than ten (10) days after his or her tenure of office expires, a typewritten report summarizing the duties of his or her office, analyzing problems encountered and solutions used for these problems, and giving any suggestions that he or she feels could contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the Student Government Association in succeeding years.
2. The outgoing Secretary shall combine the yearly reports submitted to him or her. A copy of the reports shall be kept in the Student Government Association office.
1. Salaries of Student Officers shall be as follows:
a. President: $2,000.00 yearly
b. Vice President: $1,600.00 yearly
c. Chairperson of Campus Activities Board: $1,400.00 yearly
d. Chief Justice: $1,100 yearly
e. Secretary: $900.00 yearly
f. Treasurer: $800.00 yearly
g. Christian Development Coordinator: $800.00 yearly
h. Student Government Chief of Staff: $800.00 yearly
i. Elections Commissioner: $200.00 yearly
2. One half of an individual’s annual salary shall be paid at the end of each semester, except in the case of financial need, in which case an applicant may receive an advance of salary with the approval of the Student Government Association Treasurer and the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Dean of Students of the college. If, for any reason, an officer does not fulfill the duties of his or her office to the termination of the semester during which they received an advancement of salary, he or she shall repay the unearned portion of the salary to the Student Government Association.
3. A member of the Executive Council shall not receive his or her salary for the second semester until that member submits their yearly report to the Secretary of the Student Government Association.
4. The salary of the Properties Chairperson shall only be paid if the Executive Council deems their respective service satisfactory.
5. No salary change shall affect an officer serving at the time of its enactment.
Salaries shall be paid at the end of each semester on a basis of one half the totals for each semester except in the case of financial need, in which case the applicant may receive an advance of salary with the approval of the Student Government Treasurer and the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Dean of Students of the College.
If, for any reason, an officer does not fulfill the duties of his office to the termination of the semester during which he received an advancement of salary, he shall repay the unearned portion of the salary to the Student Government Association.
No salary change shall affect an officer serving at the time of its enactment.
Each member of the Executive Council of the SGA as defined by the SGA Constitution shall prepare and submit to the outgoing Secretary of the SGA not later than ten (10) days after his or her tenure of office expires, a typewritten report summarizing the duties expected by that person in their particular office, analyzing problems encountered and solutions used for these problems, and giving any suggestions that he or she feels could contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the SGA in succeeding years.
The outgoing secretary shall combine the yearly reports submitted to him or her and have a duplicate copy made. One collection shall be sent to the office of the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Dean of Students and the other shall become the property of the Students Government Association to be kept in the SGA Office.
No member of the Executive Council shall be allowed to receive any unpaid portion of his or her salary for the second semester until that person submits the yearly report to the Secretary.
The Student Government Association Treasurer shall present a prospective budget to the Senate at the beginning of each semester. The budget shall be treated as a resolution. The Senate may accept, reject, or amend the budget. The Student Government Treasurer will be allowed to participate in these proceedings as a non-voting member of the Senate.
1. The class treasurers shall be responsible for assisting the Treasurer of the Student Government Association in making sales.
2. The vice president of each class, in coordination with the class president, shall be responsible for organizing one campus event each semester. The class vice president shall also be responsible for organizing the construction of the class homecoming float.
3. The President of the Class shall serve as the tenth Senator from the class in the Student Senate and shall direct class activities. He/she shall also serve as a member of the elections committee.
4. In the Fall, all Class Officers shall be required to work the Student Council Leadership Workshop.
Each class shall be credited one hundred dollars at the beginning of each semester. A class may hold fundraisers to acquire additional funds. A class may also request additional funds by submitting a proposal for a campus event to the Executive Council. The Executive Council shall grant or deny these requests.
1. To run for an office on the Executive Council an individual must provide the Elections Committee with a petition signed by twenty-five undergraduate students at or before the mandatory candidates’ meeting.
2. To run for a class office or Senate seat an individual must be a member of the academic class he or she seeks to represent and a full-time undergraduate student. He or she must provide the Elections Committee with a petition signed by twenty-five members of his or her academic class at or before the mandatory candidates’ meeting.
3. To run for the position of transfer senator, an individual must have transferred to Mississippi College after the spring semester of the previous year. He or she must provide the Elections Committee with a petition signed by fifteen transfer students.
4. Executive Council elections shall be held no earlier than the first day of March and no later than the last day of March.
5. Sophomore, junior, and senior class officer elections shall be held during the Spring semester within 21 days following the Executive Council elections.
6. Freshman class officer elections shall be held during the fall semester within 21 days of the first day of class.
7. Sophomore, junior, and senior class Senate elections shall be held during the Spring semester within 7 days following the sophomore, junior, and senior class officer elections.
8. Freshman class Senate elections shall be held during the fall semester within 7 days following the freshman class officer elections.
9. Transfer Senate elections shall be held during the Fall semester within 7 days following the freshman class officer elections.
10. Within these guidelines, the Elections Commissioner shall designate the dates for all elections.
The candidates for Student Government Association offices must ensure that their campaigns observe the following regulations:
1. No campaigning shall be allowed until the time designated by the Elections Commissioner and announced at the mandatory candidates’ meeting.
2. No campaign shall spend more than five hundred dollars. At a time designated by the Elections Commissioner, candidates must submit receipts for all campaign related purchases to the Elections Committee.
3. Material distribution is prohibited except for clothing, buttons, hats, and paper which conveys campaign messages.
4. No signs shall be affixed to a wooden or painted surface.
5. No campaign shall attack the character of one’s opponent.
6. When the polls are open, no campaigning shall be allowed in the B.C. Rogers Student Center or within 100 feet of an entrance to the B.C. Rogers Student Center. No campaigning shall be allowed within 25 feet of a campus-owned public computer.
7. No candidate shall be allowed access to the ballot on a personal computer or electronic device.
8. After the Elections Committee certifies a winner in a specific race, signs and other public forms of campaigning for that race shall be taken down within twenty-four hours.
9. Any violations of this section shall be reported to the Elections Committee and adjudicated by the Judicial Council.
The Elections Committee shall have the authority to conduct all Student Government Association elections. The Committee’s duties and privileges include the following:
1. To publicize the offices for which students can run, the date of elections, and the deadline by which petitions must be turned in to the committee.
2. To hold a mandatory candidates’ meeting in which the candidates are notified of the laws which govern elections. The outgoing members of the Executive Council must attend the mandatory candidates meeting for individuals who are running for Executive Council.
3. To require candidates to sign a document by which they promise to abide by the laws concerning elections, promise to accept as final any ruling which the Judicial Council may make concerning their campaign, agree to run for a specific office, and certify that they meet the stated qualifications to run for that office.
4. To ensure that each candidate meets the stated qualifications to run for office.
5. To ensure that campaign material is taken down within twenty-four hours after an election.
6. To recruit members of the Student Government Association to oversee the polls, and to ensure that, at all times, the polls are being overseen.
7. To open the polls at 7:00 A.M. and to close the polls at 7:00 P.M.
8. To count the votes after the polls have closed, and to publicize a certified statement of the election results, signed by the Elections Commissioner and each acting member of the Elections Committee.
9. To enforce all elections laws by reporting violation of those laws to the Judicial council, describing the alleged violations, and recommending appropriate punishment.
10. To temporarily prohibit any campaign practice the Committee deems to violate election laws, until the Judicial Council hears the case.
11. To archive the complete election returns.
The Judicial Council shall have the authority to adjudicate all elections. The Council’s duties and privileges pertaining to elections include the following:
1. To convene immediately when the Elections Committee reports a violation of the elections laws.
2. To determine the responsibility of the accused party.
3. To determine appropriate punishment for any violations. This may include fines which may not exceed one hundred dollars, removal from the ballot, or other appropriate punishment.
4. To determine whether the results of an election are valid in the case of a contested election. In extreme cases, the Judicial Council may disqualify the results of an election and call for a new election and bar the accused party from renewing his or her candidacy.
5. A decision reached by the Judicial Council to disqualify the results of an election, remove the charged candidate from the ballot, and call for a new election may be appealed by accused students or complainants within one (1) school day of notification of the decision to an Appellate Body consisting of the Vice President of Student Affairs and/or the Associate Dean of Students and Director of Student Life. Such appeals shall be in writing and shall be delivered to the Elections Commissioner or his or her designee. If an appeal is upheld by the Appellate Body, the body may reinstate the aforementioned party’s candidacy, but the candidate may have other sanctions placed upon their newly renewed candidature by the Chief Justice (loss of campaign privileges or other appropriate punishment). This upholding must take place within one (1) school day of the Appellate Body’s receiving of the appeal.
1. No member of the Elections Committee shall publicly support any campaign.
2. The Chief Justice shall not publicly support any campaign.
3. If the president of a class is on the ballot, he or she shall be replaced by a member of their class using the following line of succession: Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Senator chosen by the Elections Commissioner. The successor shall assume all the power and duties that pertain to membership on the Elections Committee.
4. If a member of the Judicial Council is on the ballot, they shall recuse themselves in any case that pertains to elections.
5. No member of the Elections Committee or of the Judicial Council shall be allowed to recuse him or herself from the oversight or adjudication of an election unless his or her name is on the ballot.
1. Public polls shall be located in the B.C. Rogers Student Center. Students shall also be allowed to vote via their personal student account.
2. The polls shall be opened at 7:00 A.M. and be closed at 7:00 P.M. on the day of an election.
3. An elected member of the Student Government Association, the Chief of Staff, or the Elections Commissioner shall oversee the polls at all times. Individuals who are on the ballot are excluded from overseeing the polls.
4. To vote at the polls a student must present his or her student identification card.
5. Only full-time undergraduate students may vote in Student Government Association Elections. Only members of a class may elect the Senators and class officers of that class and the Homecoming Maid of that class. The Elections Committee may employ any reasonable means to ensure that students do not vote in the elections of a class which is not their own.
6. All voting shall be by secret ballot.
1. Election to a singular office shall require a majority vote. If no candidate in an election receives more than half of the votes cast, a run-off election shall be held between the two candidates receiving the most votes in the general election. The run-off shall be held within two academic days of the general election.
2. In the case of the Senate, the nine candidates receiving the most votes shall be elected to the Senate. A run-off election shall occur only in the event of a tie for ninth place.
3. In the case of honorary positions, the candidate receiving the most votes shall be the winner. A run-off election shall occur only in the event of a tie for first place.
4. Any candidate may challenge the results of an election within fourteen days after the election’s results have been publicized.
1. The Elections Committee shall conduct the honorary election of the Homecoming Queen. Homecoming Maid(s), and Mr. and Miss Mississippi College. The Judicial Council shall have the authority to adjudicate all honorary elections.
2. All honorary elections shall be held during the Fall semester. The Homecoming Queen elections shall preceded the Homecoming Maid elections, and the Homecoming Maid elections shall precede the Mr. and Miss Mississippi College elections. The Elections Commissioner, in consultation with the President of the Student Government Association, shall designate the dates for all honorary elections.
3. The Elections Committee shall accept nominations for honorary positions and publicize the nomination process. All full-time students shall be given a reasonable opportunity to submit nominations.
4. The Homecoming Queen must be an academic member of the senior class of Mississippi College.
5. The Maid of Honor shall be the runner-up in the election of the Homecoming Queen.
6. Homecoming Maids must be academic members of their respective classes.
7. Mr. and Miss MC must be academic members of the Senior class.
8. Campaigning for honorary positions is strictly prohibited.
9. Candidates for honorable positions shall be exempt from the mandatory meeting outlined in Title IV, Section 102 (1) of the Student Government Association Student Code. The Student Government Association Election Committee shall be held responsible for notifying all honorable position candidates of the applicable regulations.
10. The Student Government Association Secretary shall publicize all honorary elections.
Be It Enacted by the Mississippi College student Senate that:
All regulations concerning traffic control in relation to the students at large, shall be made by the Office of Public Safety in consultation with the Student Government Association.
The regulations concerning traffic control and parking shall be enforced by the proper authority. The Office of Public Safety has been granted the authority to issue citations, to ask for and receive from civil authorities any assistance needed and to initiate local action against violators.
The following shall be moving violations of the Mississippi College traffic regulations on the campus and while entering or leaving the campus:
1. Reckless Driving - this shall include driving in such a way as to endanger persons or property.
2. Speeding - the posted speed limit on the MC campus s hall be 15 miles per hour.
3. Entering One-Way Street Wrong - this shall include traveling on a one-way street in the wrong direction or pulling into a one-way street in the wrong direction for parking purposes.
4. Running a Stop sign.
5. Failure to Yield Right of Way at a Yield sign.
The following shall be parking violations of the Mississippi College traffic regulations:
1. No registration or improper registration--DECALS.
Failure to register - all motor vehicles brought on campus by faculty, staff, day students, residence hall students, night students, food service workers, and physical plant workers must be properly registered with the proper authorities unless otherwise authorized under the provision of this bill. The fines for this violation, if paid within twenty-four (24) hours after the issuance of said citation, shall be applied to the cost of registration. If a period of 24 hours passes before action is taken, the fines are to be forfeited, and the cost of registration will be required in full. Campus Security will issue temporary stickers at no charge to students who have previously registered a motor vehicle at Mississippi College. The student desiring such a sticker for an additional motor vehicle brought on the campus should take his decal number to the Office of Public Safety in order to secure the temporary sticker.
Improper decal - only one Mississippi College decal is to be displayed at a time. The decal is to be displayed in one of the following locations: (a) left lower corner of the rear window, (b) left rear bumper, (c) on a metal plate attached to automobile tag.
1. Wrong Lot - this shall apply only to students designated to park in a particular student lot parking in another student lot; it shall not apply to students parking in any other area.
2. Over line - this shall include double parking and taking more than allotted space.
3. Blocking Traffic - this shall include parking on undesignated areas at any time that are for
4. Tow-away zone - all tow-away zones shall be properly designated by yellow marking or by “tow-away” signs. Vehicles may be towed at owner’s expense.
5. Restricted or improper parking - this shall include parking on any sidewalk, blocking a crosswalk or handicap ramp, grass area, or parking in wrong areas so designated during weekdays.
6. Other - This shall include:
a. Causing an accident - this shall cover all accidents that might occur, no respect given to
b. Overtime Parking - a limit of ten (10) minutes shall be placed on all loading zones. Violators can be ticketed once every hour past that ten-minute limit, up to five tickets in five hours, and/or be towed.
c. Visitor Parking - no registered student, faculty, or staff of Mississippi College shall park in a visitor’s parking place.
d. Falsifying a ticket - any student who is given a traffic citation at any time on a motor vehicle that is not registered with the proper authorities and in accordance with the regulations as set forth in this bill and who wished to have the cost of the fines absorbed on the basis of a visiting relative or friend on the campus, must have the citation initialized by the proper authorities in the business office within 24 hours after the citation was issued not including Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, then mail the citation home to be signed in full by the relative or friend who was visiting on the campus with the motor vehicle at the time the citation was issued. There shall be an allowance period of one week for this relative or friend, or the fines will be charged in accordance with the stipulation of this bill.
e. Fire Zone, Handicap, and other restricted areas.
FIRE ZONES are designated by red curb paint. To adhere to safety codes and for the protection of the campus population, NO PARKING WILL BE PERMITTED IN THESE AREAS.
HANDICAPPED SPACES are designated by blue curb paint. Only vehicles displaying a valid handicapped sticker issued by an appropriate state agency may park in these spaces.
Additional Evening and Weekend Parking for Students
All lots north of College Street, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, are open to non-resident parking (Commuters and Faculty/Staff).
Faculty/Staff lots south of College Street, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, are considered open lots to resident and non-resident parking (Commuters and Faculty/Staff).
All Faculty/Staff lots (other than the Physical Plant lot), 3:00 p.m. Friday to 7:00 a.m. Monday, are considered open.
DESIGNATED PARKING places should not be violated at any time on weekdays, weekends or holidays. These spaces include the President, Vice Presidents and CFO spaces, Fire Zones, Handicapped and any space marked by signage or security cones.
All Visitor parking, 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, are considered open to resident and non-resident parking (Commuters and Faculty/Staff).
All Visitor parking, 9:00 p.m. Friday to 6:00 a.m. Monday, are considered open, unless otherwise specified by Campus Security.

All fines shall be paid to the Mississippi College Business Office within ten days after the citation has been issued. These time limits do not include Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
Drivers who are issued citations may appeal in writing to The Judicial Council. This appeal must be made within seventy-two (72) hours from the time the citation was issued, not including Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, in order for the appeal to be valid.
How to Appeal a Traffic Citation:
1. File an appeal online at www.mc.edu/safety/appeal within seventy-two (72) hours of the time the citation was issued.
2. Pay the fine(s) only after The Judicial Council has met on your appeal and denied or reduced your appeal.
3. The Judicial Council will consider all traffic appeals within a two week period from the time the appeal is submitted.
A person issued an excess of five tickets for any traffic violations regardless of ticket payment or classification shall be subject to disciplinary action by the Judicial Council. They will be required to appear before the MC Judicial Council and the SGA Chief Justice at said council’s discretion. Failure to appear on scheduled date will result in disciplinary action by the Judicial Council. Student may be fined up to, but not over $25.00 for each offense and placed on traffic probation. This is specified as follows:
1. That the Office of Public Safety be required to report to the Judicial Council any person who has received their sixth ticket for disciplinary action.
2. That any student receiving ten tickets during a given semester shall have all parking privileges on the MC campus revoked for the remainder of that semester; such student shall be reported by the Office of Public Safety to the Judicial Council for this action. If a student is caught parking a vehicle on campus after their parking privileges are revoked, the vehicle driven by that student will be towed at the student’s expense.
3. That the fine and/or disciplinary action be paid or taken care of within 10 days, if the action is not taken care of, the person shall be subject to further disciplinary action by the Judicial Court.
4. That the Judicial Council be responsible for following up the disciplinary action that they hand out.
The use of traffic Fine Money for SGA Scholarships shall be as follows:
1. Each year two-thirds or $600, whichever is greater, of the monies in the traffic fine account as of April 30, shall be used in awarding SGA Scholarships.
2. This money shall be used to award scholarships according to the procedures established by the Student Government Association.
3. The Vice President for Administration of Mississippi College shall be the permanent administrator of the Traffic Fines Fund.
4. The Treasurer of the Student Government Association shall be able to obtain an accurate complete account of the Traffic Fine Fund.
1. An amount of $1,100.00 shall be transferred each year beginning with the 1991-92 school session from the traffic fund to the regular SGA account to replace money used to pay the salary of the Chief Justice of the Judicial Council.
2. An additional amount of one thousand dollars ($1,000) shall be transferred from the Traffic Fund account to the SGA General Account at the beginning of the year, or at the rate of $500 per semester. These funds shall be used to offset and supplement some costs associated with the paperwork of the Judicial Council involving traffic violations.
1. A reserve shall be maintained of $1,000 at the end of each school year.
2. Money in this reserve may be used only in case of a financial emergency of the Student Government Association.
3. The Vice President for Enrollment Services and Dean of Students Services and Dean of Students of Mississippi College shall determine the validity for the withdrawal from this reserve.
4. An exception may be made to paragraph #1 of this section in the event that the revenue collected during the school session is insufficient to provide money for Sections 120 and 121.
The Vice President for Administration of Mississippi College shall be the permanent administrator of the Traffic Fines Fund.
The Treasurer of the SGA shall be able to obtain an accurate complete account of the Traffic Fine Fund.
Be it Enacted by the Mississippi College students Senate that:
Any club organized at Mississippi College must be in keeping with the College’s objective of intellectual excellence in an atmosphere of spiritual maturity. Student organizations are expected to contribute to the student’s development in one of four different ways:
1. Complementing classroom instruction, or enhancing academic learning;
2. Developing social interaction;
3. Providing for a profitable use of leisure time;
4. Encouraging better values and higher standards;
To be approved at Mississippi College an organization must fulfill one or more of the following requirements:
1. Be closely related to all academic discipline.
2. Be affiliated with a nationally recognized service club organization.
3. Be sponsored by a church or group of churches representing the religious affiliation of a significant number of Mississippi College Students.
4. Be a social club devoted primarily to promoting fellowship and social graces among Mississippi College Students.
The proposed organization should have prior endorsement as follows:
1. An academic club must have the approval of the chairperson of the academic division to which the club relates and the approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
2. A service club must have the approval of the Coordinator of Student Activities.
3. A religious organization must have the approval of the Director of Religious Activities.
4. A social club must have the approval of the Coordinator of Student Activities.
Having gained the endorsement of the proper authority, those proposing to form a new club shall present to the Assistant Director of Student Life for Student Development a petition for a charter, submitting such pertinent information as the following:
1. Name of organization and sponsoring group.
2. Nature and purpose of organization.
3. Membership standards.
4. Costs of initiation and annual dues including data regarding requirements for participation in national conventions.
5. Probable maximum enrollment.
6. Data regarding regular meetings to be held during the school year, and
7. Provisions for sponsor or sponsors to be named.
8. Tentative Constitution.
The Assistant Director of Student Life for Student Development shall forward the petition to both the Student Activities and Services Committee and the Student Senate for approval of chartering. Approval of both the Student Senate and the Student Activities and Services Committee will be required before a charter may be granted.
After a petition is approved, any changes in the organization must receive prior approval of the Student Activities and Services Committee. Each organization shall abide by Student Senate regulations relative to maintaining its charter.
The Student Activities Calendar is to be set by the Assistant Director of Student Life for Student Activities shall be recognized as the official school calendar for all planned activities of all chartered organizations.
All planned activities of all chartered organizations, upon approval of the appropriate administrative head, must be placed on the Student Activities Calendar Items should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the event. Student organizations not complying with this policy may be refused the services of college facilities.
All student organizations at Mississippi College must complete and return a rechartering form to the Coordinator of Student Activities each Spring in order to function as a chartered body at Mississippi College for the following year. Failure to comply with this regulation shall result in a revocation of that group’s charter until this form is completed and returned.
1. An SGA Scholarship shall be established.
2. All scholarships shall be worth $500 per semester.
3. The selection shall be conducted by a committee consisting of the outgoing SGA President, the outgoing SGA Chief Justice, and the outgoing Senior Class President.
4. The committee shall make its selections by one week prior to the first day of final examinations for the spring semester.
5. Past and potential service shall be considered by the committee as criteria for this scholarship.
6. All applicants must have previously served as a member of the SGA. Furthermore, only students who will be undergraduates during the next academic year will be eligible for this scholarship.
7. The scholarship shall be awarded for the next academic year.
8. All money for this scholarship shall be obtained from the traffic fine account.
9. $4,000 of the available funds for the scholarship shall be reserved for recipients for the “SGA Scholarship for Outstanding Service Award.”
10. Students serving on the SGA Executive Council may receive the SGA scholarship regardless of the institutional scholarship cap.
1. An “SGA Scholarship for Outstanding Service” award shall be established.
2. This scholarship award shall be given to four students who have made significant contributions to the student body of Mississippi College during the current academic year. No elected or appointed officials of the Student Government Association shall be eligible to receive this award. Only students who are returning to Mississippi College as an undergraduate for the upcoming fall semester shall be eligible to receive the award.
3. The award shall be presented at the yearly Honors Convocation in the form of a scholarship, the value of which shall be $500 per semester.
4. Nomination and selection shall be conducted by the Mississippi College Student Senate. The nomination process shall function as the normal legislative process of the Senate does, with the exception of voting procedure.
5. Voting shall be conducted by secret ballot. Each senator shall vote for up to four nominees featured on the ballot. The four nominees receiving the most votes shall win the award.
6. Funding for this scholarship award shall be derived from the traffic fine account.
