LATIMER HOUSE

Latimer House

Latimer House, later called Twin Oaks, was built circa 1895 by Warren S. Webb, President of Mississippi College, 1873-91. President Webb’s daughter, Leura Myrtle, married Murray E. Latimer, professor of Greek at Mississippi College from 1898 until the late 1940’s; he also served as college registrar and as mayor of Clinton, 1906 - 1919. Mississippi College purchased the home in 1969 and used it for a time as faculty housing. In 1991, after extensive renovation and restoration, the late-Victorian era building took on new life as the College guest house and unique setting for art exhibits.
