MC School of Business Hosts Mississippi Healthcare Reform Summit

October 20, 2011

National experts and political leaders are coming to Mississippi College on Wednesday October 26 to discuss a critical issue - how to manage healthcare programs and costs.

The Mississippi Healthcare Summit is sponsored by the MC School of Business, the Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company, Mississippi Worksite Wellness, and the Mississippi Society for Human Resource Management and Pfizer.

The summit puts the focus on healthcare at a critical time when Mississippi's rates of heart disease, diabetes and obesity are among the worst in the nation.

Summit participants will hear directly from Mississippi policy makers, medical leaders and corporate professionals who are on the leading edge of the changes sweeping through our state’s healthcare system.  Additionally, experts at the national level will give an overview of what is happening in other states across the country.

Topics include: Best Practices in Healthcare, Mississippi Healthcare Exchange: How it Impacts Employers, and National Healthcare Reform: Why Should Employers Care?  Additional sessions include perspectives from insurers and physicians.

Lt. Governor Phil Bryant, a featured speaker at the summit, explained, “As we navigate healthcare reform over the coming years, this forum will become an integral part of keeping Mississippi business and community leaders informed and equipped to best manage health and wellness programs.”

Marcelo Eduardo, dean of the School of Business at Mississippi College believes the timing is perfect for this summit and that business leaders from across the state will benefit from hearing about changes on the horizon from healthcare experts.

“The current business environment is very challenging.  There are new regulations all the time with very real consequences. If we can arm the business community before those changes take place, then allow them to make informed decisions when it comes to healthcare choices, everybody wins,” Eduardo says.

In addition to Lt. Gov. Bryant and Dean Eduardo, other presenters and panelists include Mike Chaney, Mississippi Insurance Commissioner, Andrew Webber, President and CEO, National Business Coalition on Health and executives from Southern Farm Bureau Life, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United, St. Dominic Hospital, University Medical Center, McPherson Benefits Group, and Hub International.
