Established in 1969, the School of Nursing enjoys a long history of preparing nurses who are both accomplished professional practitioners and models of Christian Caring. We approach the nursing profession as a calling, a way to serve through ministry to others. More than 1,500 nurses have graduated from the program.
The MC Experience
Faculty draw on a diverse selection of teaching methods, appealing to a variety of learning styles. Knowledge acquisition is reinforced through lecture and discussion, case studies, learning journals, patient care simulations, multimedia software, audio-visual presentations, professional events, and group projects.
Nursing students begin clinical experiences during their first semester. These experiences are chosen through a guided process that facilitates progressive learning; students advance from caring for individuals to caring for families and communities, from dealing with less acute situations to more serious ones. Clinical training experiences include adult health, maternal health, psychiatric health, and community health.
Learning opportunities are also offered internationally. Currently, nursing students can take advantage of a study abroad program in Colombia, South America. Students also have the opportunity to take their skills on a medical missions trip each summer, where they work in a remote or make-shift clinic, meet basic needs and teach their clients about health. Destinations have included Kyrgyzstan, India, Chile, China, Yemen, and the Blackfoot Nation in Wyoming.
Students participate in health fairs, present health education programs at local schools, conduct community health screenings and offer lessons on health promotion and disease prevention to the community.
