Andy Kanengiser Named as MC's University News Coordinator


Andy Kanengiser, a longtime higher education reporter with The Clarion-Ledger, will be Mississippi College's university news coordinator.

"Adding Andy to our public relations team will enable us to develop additional news and publicity about the university," said Tracey Harrison, director of public relations. "He is a talented professional who has wide-ranging experience in all of the areas that are essential to publicizing the success of Mississippi College."

Kanengiser will be responsible for directing the flow of university news and information to media outlets, publishing news through several channels on the university web site, and serving as writer of the university's flagship magazine.

Kanengiser comes to Mississippi College from The Clarion-Ledger, where he served as higher education reporter. His responsibilities included coverage of Mississippi's eight public universities, ten private colleges and 15 community colleges. Kanengiser has more than 30 years of experience as a reporter working for the Jackson Daily News, Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, The Albany (GA) Herald, Tallahassee Democrat, Florida Times-Union and USA Today.

Long active in the Jackson community, he is a member of Crossgates Baptist Church in Brandon and the Kiwanis Club, and an organizer of the third annual Homerun for Habitat charity softball game.

A New Jersey native, Kanengiser earned his bachelor's degree from Penn State University (1973) and his master's degree from Florida State University (1975). Kanengiser and his wife, Sunuia, have five children and one grandson. He and his family live in Pearl.
