Award of Excellence at Mississippi College Honors Michael and Ginger Moskau

Ginger Moskau

A major gift to the Mississippi College School of Education came from the late businessman Michael Moskau and his wife, Ginger.

The Louisiana couple’s generous donation helped Mississippi College create a “state-of-the-art” classroom on the 4th floor of Lowrey Hall. The modern facility serves as headquarters of MC’s innovative doctoral program in educational leadership.

Their gift represents the largest donation at the School of Education in two decades. The Moskau family’s strong support of Mississippi College combined with their service on the Christian university’s Foundation Board are greatly appreciated on the Clinton campus.

It’s why the National Alumni Association is saluting the late Michael Moskau and Ginger Moskau this fall with the institution’s Award of Excellence. A New Orleans native, Ginger will receive the honor at MC’s Alumni Awards dinner on October 23. The event at Anderson Hall begins at 6 p.m.

The award honors men and women who have rendered distinguished service to Mississippi College. The nation’s second oldest Baptist college celebrates its 190th anniversary in January.

Their gift alone to the School of Education continues to produce tremendous benefits to doctoral students.

“The Moskau family’s support for the MC School of Education resulted in our being able to design and build an example of the classrooms of the 21st Century,” said dean Don Locke. He hopes their gift will encourage others to support MC’s teacher education programs.

A general contractor in commercial construction in Louisiana, Michael Moskau handled large projects such as hospitals and universities. His wife, Ginger, is a CPA who worked with him in the family business. They were the owners of the MGM Construction Company.

In 2014, the New Orleans couple faced their hardest time together when Michael was admitted to the hospital with liver disease and cancer. On July 21, 2014, Michael decided to remove himself from the ventilator keeping him alive.

At the time, their youngest daughter, Emily, now 23, was a student at MC’s School of Nursing. “The Nursing School was so good to her, so supportive,” Ginger Moskau said when reached by phone at her New Orleans home in late September. “They reached out to us when we were going through difficult times.”

Emily is a 2014 MC nursing graduate.

Their oldest daughter, Christy, now 30, is a 2007 graduate of the MC School of Education. A family friend told her about the Baptist-affiliated university to get the family started as MC Choctaws. Christy was the recipient of the Glenda Locke White Award as the outstanding elementary education graduate in 2007.

As MC parents, Michael and Ginger soon became faithful Mississippi College supporters. They began serving on the university’s Foundation Board about four years ago.

“I wish I could have gone to MC,” says Ginger Moskau, a graduate of the University of New Orleans. She’s a big admirer of President Lee Royce and his wife, Rhoda. “I think the world of them.”

For her late husband, Michael, and herself, the Mississippi College Award of Excellence, Ginger Moskau said, “is quite an honor to have.”
