Crossgates Baptist Church Books Comedian Anita Renfroe

Mississippi College "Beacon" magazine Fall 2008 cover story Anita Renfroe
Lots of laughter will be heard in the sanctuary at Crossgates Baptist Church on March 5. That's because comedian Anita Renfroe is bringing her delicious brand of humor to the Brandon church for a Friday night performance.

A regular contributor to ABC's "Good Morning America," the Mississippi College alumnus went from being a preacher's wife and stay-at-home mom in Georgia to a rising star on the national map as a Christian comedian.

Tickets are on sale at the church lobby for the 7 p.m. concert featuring the funny lady with a new DVD titled "It's Probably Just My Thyroid." Some have described the 1984 MC graduate as "this generation's Erma Bombeck."

On "Good Morning America," she's touched on such deep topics as the five stages of grief following a terrible haircut to the horrors of trying on a bathing suit. Those were some of the things said about Anita Renfroe in MC's "Beacon," the university alumni magazine. In the Fall 2008 edition, Renfroe shined as the magazine's cover story.

"Every comedian has a worldview and my comedy reflects mine," Renfroe said in the "Beacon" story. "I reveal my faith no matter what the venue, whether it's Madison Square Garden or Women of Faith, Good Morning America, or church."

Fans at Crossgates Baptist Church will get to hear Renfroe pull from comedy material that often comes from the home front. Renfroe and her husband John live in Atlanta with three children, Calvin, Austin and Elyse.

Her talent has been warmly embraced by media outlets stretching from "Dr. Phil" to "Oprah and Friends" to Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends." In 2007, she performed in front of more than 400,000 women during the Women of Faith's Amazing Freedom conferences.

Mississippi families and friends are expected to be out in full force for Anita Renfroe at Crossgates Baptist Church. The event in Central Mississippi will follow her concert at First Baptist Church in Nashville March 4. After the Brandon church gig, Renfroe heads to a March 6 concert at Indian Creek Christian Church in Indianapolis. Going to Branson, Missouri? Renfroe will be in concert there April 24.
