Flowood Center Helps Sponsor Escape From Planet Earth

An animated movie comedy, “Escape from Planet Earth” is coming soon to the Winner’s Park in Flowood.

Mississippi College’s Flowood Center is teaming with the City of Flowood’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Mississippi National Guard to sponsor the event on Thursday July 11.

Gates to the park at 100 Winners Circle will open at 6:30 p.m. and the free showing will begin at dusk.

“We take pride in family-friendly events,” says Susan Bolian of the Flowood Parks and Recreation Department. “This gives parents a break. They should bring the kids out.”

Movie-goers coming to watch the film in the Rankin County community are asked to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Popcorn is welcome, too. There’s much more going on in the Flowood park that summer evening. Winner’s Park is home to five tennis courts, eight open air pavilions, a walking track and a playground for children.

With 350 to 500 people expected to be on hand for “Escape from Planet Earth,” Mississippi College staffers will use the opportunity to distribute information about graduate studies and the Christian university’s Accelerated Degree Program.

Located off Lakeland Drive near the Dogwood mall, the Flowood Center offers academic programs two evenings per week. The center caters to working adults in metro Jackson with courses including sociology, business, communications, public relations and accounting.

Led by director Sara Kimmel, the Flowood Center is involved in another major community project this summer. Staffers at the Mississippi College branch are collecting school supplies for the Mississippi School for the Blind.

Items needed include crayons, washable markers, No. 2 pencils, colored pencils, glue sticks, composition tablets, wet wipes and notebook paper.
