Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott
Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott will speak to Mississippi College School of Business students on Thursday, April 16.

The Mississippi native succeeded Bob Dole as Senate Majority Leader in 1996 and served through 2001. He was the first Mississippian to serve in the Senate's top position.

Lott succeeded the legendary John C. Stennis in the U.S. Senate and served until he stepped down in December 2007. He previously served for 16 years as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. He is the first member of Congress to be elected party whip in both the Senate and House.

The Grenada native is a Republican who earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Mississippi. He is presently working as a Washington-based lobbyist. Lott is the author of "Herding Cats: A Life in Politics."

In December 2007, Gov. Haley Barbour named then-U.S. Rep. Roger Wicker to succeed him in the U.S. Senate.

Beginning at 11 a.m., Lott's speech at the School of Business in Self Hall on the Clinton campus is not open to the public.
