Free Weather Spotter Class

Just days after severe storms pounded Mississippi, National Weather Service forecasters will team with the Mississippi College Office of Public Safety to conduct a weather spotter class on the Clinton campus.

The class will meet Tuesday (Jan. 15) at 6 p.m. in the board meeting room at the B.C. Rogers Student Center. The class is free.

NWS meteorologist Ashley Wester said the class will teach the public how to spot a tornado, and identify other types of severe weather and relay the information quickly to the weather service. "It helps us," she said.

During the class, NWS officials will also offer safety tips about dealing with severe weather on the way, such as places to seek shelter. Storms last week left two dead and did extensive damage to structures in Mississippi. The NWS has conducted similar classes at other colleges around the state.
