Graphic Design Major Laura Thompson Wins Art Competition Logo Award

Mississippi Collegiate Arts Competition logo design winners are MC students James Wilson, Laura Thompson and Anna Yoakum.

Laura Thompson’s creative logo design was good enough to land first-place honors and be used to promote the Mississippi Collegiate Art Competition.

Her logo will now appear in promotional materials to showcase the upcoming statewide student competition in Jackson in 2017. The 67th annual competition will attracts hundreds of entries in drawing, clay arts, glass arts, graphic design, painting, photography, printmaking, and other categories.

A 21-year-old graphic design major at Mississippi College, Laura was excited to be chosen for the award in late October. The Collegiate Competition Supervisory Council made their selections in Jackson October 21.

The award just adds more satisfaction to Laura being so pleased with her art education at the Baptist-affiliated university in Clinton.

“I’m so thrilled to be around such talented students and teachers alike,” says Thompson, a Vicksburg resident.

Her career plans are to go into editorial or print design. She works as a graphic designer at an area magazine.

Thompson isn’t the only Mississippi College art student celebrating. The Collegiate Competition Supervisory Council also chose MC students James Wilson for a 2nd place award, while Anna Yoakum earned third-place honors.

From MC Art Department Chairman Randy Miley to art professors Steve Cook, Kent Mummert and Benjamin Ivey, the response from the entire Aven Hall group was to offer their congratulations to all three students.

Others added their kudos.

“You all make Mississippi College mighty proud,” said Ron Howard, vice president for academic affairs.
