Hallie Darphin Receives National Recognition for Dot Products

Dot Products sells pencils and notebooks to help educate poor children in the Congo, Mexico and Tanzania.

Mississippi College graduate Hallie Darphin serves as owner and founder of the Jackson-based company, and her work recently earned national recognition.

In January, the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities saluted Darphin as runner-up of its first national contest to honor young alumni. A 2013 MC graduate, Hallie says the recognition was “really sweet” since many MC people and those especially in metro Jackson voted for her in the contest on Facebook.

Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the council is a higher education association of 179 Christian institutions worldwide. It includes 118 member campuses in North America. The CCCU encompasses 35 Protestant nominations as well as the Catholic church in its membership.

The CCCU Young Alumni Award competition eventually boiled down to 10 colleges. Hallie collected more overall votes, but the contest winner received a higher percentage based on a smaller campus enrollment.

The latest exposure can’t hurt as Dot Products seeks to expand its horizons. Based at an office at 745 North President Street near the Mississippi Capitol, Dot Products utilizes school supplies manufactured in America. Launched in June 2014, its products include: binders, pencils, journals and rulers.

Darphin’s company now is working with But God Ministries, a ministry started by fellow MC graduate Stan Buckley to begin manufacturing school supplies and service in Haiti. Hallie plans a trip to Haiti in May.

Hallie is really not about the honors or awards. She loves serving those less fortunate with her non-profit Christian ministry.

Asked what’s next for her in five years, Darphin plans to stick with Dot Products “unless God wants me to do something different.”

Hallie first got interested in the idea of starting a school supply company in a class in entrepreneurship at Baptist-affiliated Mississippi College.
