MC Debate Team Books 2010 Tournaments


Mississippi College's debate team takes to the road in the new year with competition booked in Louisiana, Texas and Arkansas.

The MC team will be in Baton Rouge to begin their spring season with the Mardi Gras Classic on the Louisiana State University campus Feb. 5-7. That's followed by a debate tournament at Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas March 5-7.

The MC debaters finished hosting the Deep South Classic on the Clinton campus in early December.

At the classic, a total of 55 debaters participated from seven schools, including LSU-Shreveport, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin University, Union University, the University of Arkansas-Monticello, Bossier Parish Community College and MC.

MC entered four debaters during the competition on the Clinton campus Dec. 4-5. Two MC students were in the novice division -Thujee Lhendup of the nation of Bhutan in South Asia and Chase Caldwell of Vidalia, La. and two verbally sparred on the varsity - Josh McCormick of Etta, and Randall Miller of Roseland, La. McCormick made it to the finals, but was defeated by LSU-Shreveport debater John Kay. Miller finished with a 3-3 win-loss record in the tournament.

Union University of Jackson, Tenn. swept the novice division taking first, second and third place. Former MC communication professor Web Drake coaches the Union team.

Mississippi College closes out its 2009-2010 season with the Independent Public Debate Association Championships at the University of Central Arkansas March 26-29.
