MC Equestrian Team Recruits Receive Providence Hill Farm Welcome

Head trainer Jack Stedding brings a national reputation to his new job at Providence Hill Farm.
Mississippi College's equestrian team is rolling out the welcome mat for high school riders from five states on Nov. 14.

Part of the university's Preview Day, talented high school riders from Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee and Texas are invited to the 2,000-acre Providence Hill Farm.

They are dubbing the two-hour event at Providence Hill Farm the Equestrian Program Showcase, says owner Jamie Martin, the MC team adviser.

Head trainer Jack Stedding, assistant trainer Linda Andrisani, MC coach Becky Baumel, and others will be on hand to greet MC rider prospects from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. that Saturday.

Providence Hill Farm features a 36-stall heated barn, a grand prix jumping field, riding trails, a lake and much more.

The MC equestrian team is in its third season and competes in Intercollegiate Horse Show Association events. MC opened its 2009-2010 season on the road in competition hosted by Sewanee in Tennessee. Over the weekend, members of the MC team, including Meredith Guider of Utica and Sara Mellado of Texas, competed in a horse show in Canton, Miss.

MC begins its Preview Day on the Clinton campus at 8 a.m. that Saturday. It gives an opportunity for prospective MC students and their parents to meet with leaders at the Christian university, visit with professors and current undergraduates, attend classes, and enjoy a meal. Campus tours are also scheduled.
