MC Family Donates Emergency Funds

Debbie DePriest's home in Flora burned to the ground last week to destroy almost all of the family's belongings. Mississippi College colleagues quickly responded to the family's emergency with an outpouring of donations and other assistance.

On Thursday July 30, an account was established at the MC business office to serve the needs of the DePriest family. Fortunately, no members of her family were hurt. But the family's dog died in the blaze at their home in Madison County.

An MC staff member since May 1982, DePriest serves as a secretary in the MC Graduate School office. The family bought the Flora home in 2009. She moved from Clinton to the community in Madison County early this year.

MC leaders say their prayers go out to the DePriest family. Persons interested in making a donation, can contact Debbie Norris, the MC Graduate School dean and vice president for planning and assessment at 601.925.3225.

The Community Service Center in the B.C. Rogers Student Center has offered to collect household and kitchen supplies and other items needed by the family. For more information, contact Shari Barnes at 601.925.3267.
