MC Family Travels to Ireland and England

Ireland's castles, ancient monuments, the country's wonderful music and a visit to Trinity College are just a few of the tourist attractions.

It's part of a seven-day trip to Ireland and two-day stay in London for Mississippi College faculty, staff, students and other members of the MC community.

There's a limit of 32 people on the March 11-21, 2010 overseas journey led by MC professors Bonnie Blu Williams and Debbie Norris.

Williams, who teaches music on the Clinton campus, can't wait to go. "It's so beautiful," she says of the Emerald Isle. "Some of its gravesites are older than Egypt's," she notes. But listening to live Irish music in cities like Dublin and Belfast is really her favorite thing to do as a tourist.

MC's graduate school dean and vice president of planning and assessment, Norris is a regular traveler on Mississippi College annual tours abroad. Last year, Norris traveled to Italy.

The spring holiday tour to Ireland and London isn't all play. Students may take courses tied to the trip for college credit. Williams, for instance, will offer music appreciation classes that will spotlight the music of Ireland. Norris will teach the American economic system and the European Union from Jan 12 until March 9, just prior to the journey abroad.

There's so much to do and just nine days to do it. But the MC crew is determined to try to squeeze in as much as possible. On the agenda, will be an evening dinner and Irish music in a typical Irish pub and a leisurely tour of the Wicklow Mountains.

There's also a visit planned to the Knoth burial tombs and a stop at Belfast Cathedral. Potential stops in London include the Tower of London with its crown jewels and the British Museum. Green brochures detailing the journey in March 2010 are available in the lobby of Nelson Hall nearby miniature Bibles and an assortment of free literature.

All good things must come to an end. On Sunday March 21, the MC group will depart Heathrow Airport and take the overseas flight back home to Houston.

MC travelers signing up must pay a $300 deposit plus a first payment installment that must be turned in by November 9. For more information, contact Bonnie Blu Williams at 601-925-3443 or bwilliam@mc.edu
