MC Gears Up for Summer Sports Camps


Homeruns and hoops at Mississippi College - what a fantastic combination as MC coaches teach youngsters the basics about baseball and basketball on the Clinton campus this summer.

Baseball camp is led by MC head baseball coach Brian Owens and his staff for a week of instruction at Frierson Field. The camp runs from June 1-4 at a cost of $140 per participant with lunch included. Geared to ages 6-15, they will learn the fundamentals of hitting, throwing and fielding.

Owens is the 2009 American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year. The camp runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. with lunch from 11 a.m. until noon. For details contact assistant baseball coach Tim Kendrick at 601-925-3353 or by email at tkendric@mc.edu

The 2009 Choctaw Super Hoops basketball camps are from June 15-18 for day camp for boys entering grades 1-5 (from 1-4:30 p.m.) The day camp is at A.E. Wood Coliseum. It costs $90. Overnight camp for boys is June 14-17. It costs $225.

Lady Choctaws head coach Paul Allen Duke will lead a camp for the girls. Day camp for the girls (entering grades 1-5)is June 15-18 at a cost of $90 and the overnight camp for girls (entering grades 6-12) is June 21-24 at a cost of $225. The fee for the four-day session includes a T-shirt, meals, insurance and tuition. The sports camps are part of the total of nearly 10,000 youngsters visiting MC for summer camps from late May through late July. The campers come from 14 states around the South.
