MC Graduate Student Wins Awards

Jennifer Dyess, a Mississippi College graduate student in fine arts, came away a big winner in competition at the annual convention of the Printing Industry Association of the South.

Dyess, 35, a Brandon resident, works as a senior graphic designer/web designer with the Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company in Jackson.

Hederman Brothers Printers of Ridgeland submitted 20 piece at the recent awards program at the Hilton SanDestin Beach Golf Resort in Destin, Fla. The two items created by Dyess were chosen in June as Best of Category at the 33rd annual convention.

The Printing Industry Association of the South is a non-profit trade group dedicated to assisting the industry to expand in the seven-state region that includes Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and Tennessee.

This is the second time Dyess captured a Best of Category award in the competition, said Bert Jackson, vice president for sales at Hederman Brothers Printing. She previously was a winner in 2005. "She's obviously very talented.''

Dyess received her bachelor's degree from Delta State University in fine arts in 1998 and expects to be awarded her master's in fine arts from Mississippi College in May 2009.

"It's quite an honor,'' said, Dyess, a New Orleans native and former member of the Air National Guard in Louisiana and Mississippi. "It's a very prestigious group.''
