MC Hosts 2008 Orientation
Mississippi College leaders will welcome about 175 incoming freshmen at orientation sessions July 11-12 on the Clinton campus.
A reception at the B.C. Rogers Student Center, an evening coffee house on campus, and meetings with academic advisers are among the activities scheduled at MC. The new crop of students will enroll in August on the Clinton campus.
"We are expecting a sensational group of freshmen students that will ultimately become the future of Mississippi College," said Scotty Elliott, the director of admissions. "Orientation is gratifying for our office because we see first-hand the fruition of the Lord's work through our profession."
Activities begin with a 5 p.m. arrival on that Friday for a reception with dinner to follow at 6 p.m. in Anderson Hall. The coffee house will feature music from the Birmingham-based Ryan Kinder Band. Students will spend the night in MC residence halls before an event-filled Saturday.
MC President Lee Royce and other school leaders will be on hand to welcome the newcomers. There is also a one-day orientation set for Thursday July 10 for transfer students. Activities include a 1 p.m. luncheon at Anderson Hall. There will be time for small-group sessions with academic advisers.
A number of MC transfers are coming from such in-state schools as Hinds Community College, Holmes Community College and Jones County Junior College. About 215 transfer students are signed up for orientation, Elliott said.
