MC Hosts Winter 2009 Graduation Dec. 18


An internationally recognized author and award-winning professor at Mississippi College, Michael Mann is the keynote speaker at MC's Winter 2009 commencement on Dec. 18.

More than 275 MC students are expected to receive degrees at the graduation ceremonies at 7 p.m. in the A.E. Wood Coliseum.

Mann is MC's Distinguished Professor for 2009. He received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from the Baptist-affiliated university in history and Spanish. He received a master of education degree from the University of Mississippi in higher education student services and a master of arts degree from the University of Durham in Durham, England in counseling services.

Mann received a master of divinity degree in theological studies from Emory University in Atlanta. He completed a doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Missouri. The author of more than 25 publications, Dr. Mann joined the MC faculty as a psychology professor in 2003.

Earlier in the day on the Clinton campus, 19 MC nursing students will take part in the School of Nursing commencement at 1:30 p.m. at Provine Chapel. The guest speaker will be Clinton resident Ricki Garrett, executive director of the Mississippi Nurses Association. The Ridgeland-based organization is the voice for registered nurses in Mississippi.

A past president of the Mississippi University for Women Alumnae Association, Garrett served for a dozen years on the state College Board that oversees the state's eight public universities. Garrett received her doctorate in urban higher education from Jackson State University.
