Mississippi College Law School’s Moot Court Board team brought home the trophy as the USA’s champion in competition in Chicago.

Data breach security proved to be a timely topic for the American Bar Association National Arbitration Competition. Attracting teams from 40 law schools, the legal sparring happened in the Windy City January 22-23.

In the finals, two MC Law teams faced counterparts from Texas Tech and the University of Missouri. It was the 11th annual ABA arbitration competition.

The national championship triumph comes as MC Law celebrates its 40th anniversary.

MC Law Dean Wendy Scott saluted the winners on her campus in downtown Jackson.

“MC Law School students continue to distinguish themselves in moot court and arbitration competitions across the country,” Scott said Tuesday. “We are preparing students to be the best advocates. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Scott thanked faculty, staff and coaches for “working tirelessly to ensure victory,” at the ABA-sponsored event. The ABA has accredited 205 law schools nationwide.

Offering her congratulations to MC Law, ABA associate director Sara Stretch said the initial 40 teams were trimmed to ten and reduced to a final four during the weekend competition in Illinois.

Members of the winning MC Law team are students Taylor Lawrence and Cameron McCormick, both of Pascagoula, Ed Williams of Collins, and Matt Walton of Ridgeland. Also: Jessica Terrill Pulliam of Starkville, Caylan Dunnells of Richland, Ira Rushing of Jackson and Erica King of Ramer, Tennessee.

Amanda Hill, a 2014 MC Law graduate with the law firm of Chhabra & Gibbs and 2015 MC Law graduate Kasey Mitchell of Butler Snow served as coaches for the two successful squads from the Magnolia State.

MC Law enrolls more than 400 students from 26 states and 82 undergraduate schools.
