MC Naturals Set For Holiday Spectacular

Mississippi College's roving ambassadors of song and dance, The Naturals, will perform three concerts on the Clinton campus to celebrate the Christmas season.

Tickets, all $5 per seat, are now available on-line for the trio of performances, Nov. 29-30 and Dec. 2 for the ninth annual Holiday Spectacular at Swor Auditorium. Shows at the 800-seat auditorium in Nelson Hall begin at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2:30 p.m. for the Sunday performance.

Dating back to 1969, the student-led Naturals has entertained audiences at churches and communities across Mississippi. Under the vocal direction of Cindi Jefcoat, the MC students come with a message: to advance the Kingdom of God through song and dance.

'We are blessed to have talented students and the Naturals demonstrate their ability to entertain audiences and promote Mississippi College in a special way," said Jim Turcotte, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs.

Established in the late 1960s by Dr. Jack Lyall and now under Turcotte's management, the group blends fantastic vocals with outstanding choreography enhanced by special lighting effects.

The upcoming concerts should draw lots of local talent. As in the past, many children from Clinton and surrounding communities will be on stage at MC as Junior Naturals. About 40 children are expected to join the show at MC.

Getting ready for the show in recent days at the Hilltop Theatre, the Naturals include students Jonathan Nutt, Anna Jefcoat, and Melissa Sprowles, all Clinton High graduates, Corey Springer and Tyler S. Wade, both of Tupelo, David Parker and Brittany Ricker, both of Meridian, Hannah Southerland of Lorman, David Boyd of Collinsville and Lauren Rogers of Rincon, Ga.

It will be a homecoming of sorts for the 10-member group that's performed in recent weeks at such places as Highland Baptist Church in Natchez and for a gathering of the Mississippi Good Sams travel group in Columbia, Miss.

"It's a good way to kick off the season," said Nutt, 19, an MC sophomore of the Holiday Spectacular.

An English major at the Christian university, Nutt said the 2006 spectacular at MC was "a good experience. We had a good response from the audience." He expects this year's edition will be no different.

For the 2007 version, the Naturals will perform such classics as "Winter Wonderland" and "Home for the Holidays." And their musical lineup includes "Joy to the World."
