MC Student Counseling Services Center Gains New Leader

Amy Christian goes to work August 17 as the new director of Mississippi College's Student Counseling Services Center.

Christian comes to the Clinton campus from her post with Mississippi State University's Student Counseling Services office. The MSU graduate recently worked on the Starkville campus as a staff counselor and outreach coordinator. She's also taught a variety of counseling and psychology classes at MSU.

Christian succeeds Buddy Wagner, who retired as the MC counseling center director, but will continue to teach psychology classes part-time this fall. Wagner has worked at MC for 27 years.

"I'm very impressed with her - she's got a good varied background," Wagner said Monday. The new counseling center director "seems like she has a lot of energy and good ideas."

In her new position, Dr. Christian "will be reaching out to all students, residential and commuter," said Ron Howard, vice president for academic affairs. "She is wonderfully qualified to meet the counseling needs of our growing student body."

Baptist-affiliated MC enrolled nearly 4,900 students last fall.

Christian received her doctorate in counseling and student personnel services from Mississippi State in May 2008. She earned her master's in rehabilitation counseling from MSU and her bachelor's in educational psychology in 1997 from MSU.

On the MSU campus, Christian has served as director of the Center for Alcohol and Drug Education.
