MC Student Receives Social Work Leadership Award

Mississippi College senior Jessica Tatum is the recipient of a $500 scholarship from the Mississippi Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care.

An MC social work major from Dalton, Ga., Tatum plans to pursue a master's degree in her field.

Tatum was recently awarded the scholarship based on her academic performance, community involvement, and future aspirations, said Brian Anderson, who heads MC's social work program.

The north Georgia resident was recognized at the Mississippi Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care board meeting in Jackson in late January. The organization has about 75 to 100 members.

The state organization has recognized top college students in the field for at least 15 years, says scholarship committee member Lisa Caddle, a social worker with the Jackson Public Schools.

The lone applicant from Mississippi College, Tatum competed for the award with students from other in-state schools, such as the University of Southern Mississippi.
