MC Students Compete for 2010 Miss MC Pageant

Mississippi College students will compete for scholarships, face interviews and entertain crowds during the annual Miss MC Pageant on Jan. 21.

Three students from Mississippi and one from Alabama will take the stage that evening in Swor Auditorium and try to win over the judges. The program begins at 7 p.m.

"I'm looking forward to competing in this pageant because I feel it would be such an honor to represent Mississippi College at Miss Mississippi," in Vicksburg, said contestant Julie Hall of Picayune. "I truly believe in the value of the learning experience that competing in a pageant can provide."

An MC junior, Hall is a business administration major and the daughter of Ken and Nancy Hall. Her campus activities range from the Swannanoa Social Tribe to the Freshman Ministry team and Campus Activities Board.

Others competing include: MC sophomore Amanda Sturniolo of Greenwood, an English writing major and political science minor. A member of the Laguna Social Tribe, she's been a member of the Lady Choctaws soccer team and an orientation leader. Sturniolo plans to attend law school after getting her MC degree.

MC sophomore Julie Meeks of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and senior Audrie Cirlot of Moss Point are the other two students in the running for the Miss MC crown. Meeks is the daughter of Jimmy and Jenny Meeks.

A vocal performance major, Cirlot is the daughter of Steve and Tinell Cirlot. Audrie was among eight Miss MC Pageant contestants last January.

Jessica Terrill, an MC sophomore from Fulton, is the 2009 Miss MC Pageant winner. The daughter of Jeff and Jan Terrill will crown the 2010 winner.

The event typically attracts 400 to 500 people to the auditorium in Nelson Hall, says Cam Armstrong, coordinator of student activities. Tickets cost $5 for MC students, faculty and staff and $10 for the general public. Tickets will be available at the door.

The pageant is sponsored by the MC Office of Student Affairs. For more information, contact Cam Armstrong at 601.925.3830.
