MC Welcomes Generation Next Expert

Mark Taylor is recognized around the United States and Canada as a Generation Next expert.

In demand as a consultant to colleges, he's got many of the answers as campuses deal with the challenges posed by Generation Next students. Taylor will speak on the Mississippi College campus in Clinton, Oct. 22-23.

His first event on Thursday evening, Oct. 22, will be free and open to the public. His lecture is set for 7 p.m. at the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall in Aven Hall. Taylor, who holds a doctorate in counseling from the University of Arkansas, helps high schools, colleges, and businesses get a better understanding of the Generation Next student.

"This is a fine chance for all of us to gain further insight into improving our teaching and student learning," says Ron Howard, MC's vice president for academic affairs. "Mark Taylor is a leading national consultant on understanding and teaching Generation Next."

The MC history and political science professor believes the lectures will provide plenty of food for thought for the MC community and the public in the Jackson area.

Taylor has visited schools in 38 states. He's consulted with the U.S. Army and the University of Tennessee hospital and Wal-Mart, among others. He helps schools that are trying to see that Generation Next students (those 20-something kids and younger) become success stories in college and in the real world.

Taylor builds upon over 25 years of experience in higher education, management and with professional organizations. Based in Little Rock, Taylor also received two other degrees from the University of Arkansas. He previously served as director of guidance services at Arkansas State in Beebe.

Taylor's lectures on Friday, Oct. 23, are primarily workshops geared to MC faculty and staff. He will be speaking about a generation that was raised in a different social environment and has different experiences than previous generations.
