MC Welcomes Steve Forbes as 2010 Scholarship Program Speaker

Steve Forbes
Steve Forbes is one of America's leading business voices whose opinions matter as the editor-in-chief of "Forbes" magazine and CEO of Forbes Media.

Mississippi College alumni, faculty and other supporters are delighted to welcome Mr. Forbes as the keynote speaker at the Christian university's spring scholarship dinner.

Beginning at 6 p.m., the ticketed event will be March 29, 2010 at the B.C. Rogers Student Center. More than 500 members of the MC family are expected to hear Forbes size up America's shaky economic landscape from Wall Street to Main Street and tackle other vital topics impacting the globe.

A New Jersey native who's the chairman and CEO of Forbes Media, Forbes made two presidential bids as a Republican candidate in 1996 and 2000. On the campaign trail, he vigorously pushed his flat tax proposals. Today, he's known to millions as a frequent contributor to Fox News with opinions on a wide range of subjects - from the health care debate to his views on the nation's leadership challenges. He regularly pens a column for "The Wall Street Journal."

A 1970 Princeton University graduate, Forbes is a strong addition to MC's powerful 1-2 punch of speakers during scholarship banquets the first two years on the Clinton campus.

Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole and former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, a longtime political analyst and Fox News contributor, were the first two speakers at the events that boosted MC scholarships by a total of more than $422,000. MC leaders believe Forbes' visit will pump up MC scholarships and provide food for thought for hundreds of campus guests.

"Mississippi College is truly honored to welcome Steve Forbes, one of America's best-respected business leaders, as the guest speaker at the Christian university's 2010 scholarship program," said MC President Lee Royce. "As editor-in-chief of 'Forbes' magazine, one of the nation's premier business publications, Forbes offers his opinions on the global economy, politics, the healthcare debate, taxes and other vital concerns to millions of Americans. We look forward to his remarks."

MC School of Business Dean Marcelo Eduardo sees the Forbes visit to the Baptist-affiliated school as a plus for his students and others across campus. Adding Forbes to the lineup of distinguished people who speak at MC, students will get another "opportunity to hear from some of the most highly accomplished individuals in the business world," he said.

The grandson of B.C. Forbes, the founder of "Forbes" magazine, and the son of Malcolm Forbes, who served as the magazine's publisher for years, Steve Forbes is now the architect of a must-read publication with a circulation of more than 900,000. "Forbes" combined with "Forbes Asia" and the company's ten licensee editions together reached a worldwide audience of 5.5 million readers.

In recent months, Steve Forbes has written on such topics as options to get more donor organs, America's weak dollar, a look back at the life of the late U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy, and his assessment of the economic legacy of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

In 1985, President Ronald Reagan named Forbes the chairman of the bi-partisan Board for International Broadcasting. In that position, he directed the operations of Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty. He was reappointed to the post by President George H.W. Bush and served until 1993.

For ten years, Mr. Forbes served on the board of trustees at his alma mater, Princeton. It was on the Princeton campus in New Jersey where the history major founded his first magazine "Business Today."
