Mississippi College Hosts Blood Drive Sept 9-10

Mississippi College students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity give blood in a drive on the Clinton campus Sept. 9-10.

Mississippi Blood Services is sponsoring the event in the lobby of Alumni Hall from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Free T-shirts will go to participants, who also can take part in a drawing to win $25 Wal-Mart gift cards during both days.

Statewide, blood supplies should be low after the Labor Day weekend, said Tammy Bouchillon, marketing representative with Mississippi Blood Services. The organization based in Jackson provides blood to 49 hospitals around the Magnolia State.

Mississippi Blood Services typically needs 225 pints of blood every day year-round to serve its hospitals from North Mississippi to the Gulf Coast, she said.

Those who miss the MC blood drive have other opportunities in the area. On Friday Sept. 11, the City of Clinton will host a MBS blood drive at Brighton Park from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. On Sept. 23, First Baptist Church of Clinton will host a blood drive from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the church along College Street.

Blood drives are happening on a regular basis at Mississippi College. MBS drives are held at MC two to three times each semester, Bouchillon said. The next visit will be Nov. 18-19 at Alumni Hall in the building's lobby from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. It's always a good thing, she said, for Mississippians "to give the gift of life.''
