Mississippi College Hosts Jazz Band Dinner Feb. 12

Sounds of jazz - from the Big Band Era to the 21st Century - will be in the air Feb. 12 on the Mississippi College campus.

That's the date for the annual Friends of Music Jazz Band dinner at Anderson Hall. Falling on the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, the Friday evening event begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Friends of Music helps the Christian university's Department of Music with the purchase of new instruments and music-related technology, and provides new music library holdings. The group also helps support music scholarships and assists with the funding of the fine arts performance series.

Roy and Mary Evelyn Ward serve as co-chairs of the organization. Alumni, family and friends of the university are encouraged to join the group to invest in the lives of MC students and the activities of the department.

Music professor Craig Young serves as the director of MC bands, including the jazz ensemble. The jazz band consists of trumpets, trombones, and a rhythm section.

For ticket information, contact Linda Edwards at the MC Department of Music at 601.925.3440 or edward00@mc.edu.
