Mississippi College School of Business Hosts 2013 Financial Summit

As millions of people examine America’s latest monthly jobs report, and nervous investors check today’s economic news on Wall Street, the Mississippi College School of Business is inviting state leaders to explore the timely topic of personal finance.

Gov. Phil Bryant, Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney, and State Treasurer Lynn Fitch are among the speakers coming to the November 13 Financial Summit on the Clinton campus. School of Business Dean Marcelo Eduardo will moderate panel discussions following Gov. Bryant’s address.

The Financial Summit begins with an 8:30 a.m. registration at Anderson Hall. The two-hour event is free and open to the public.

The MC School of Business and Primerica, Inc., the Georgia-based independent financial services marketing organization, are the program’s co-sponsors. The company has more than 160 offices in 20 states. Primerica is a distributor of financial services across the USA, Canada, Puerto Rico and Guam.

Other speakers include Mississippi House Speaker Pro Tem Greg Snowden of Meridian, Mississippi College business professors Nancy Anderson and Bobby Perkins as well as David Landrum, Primerica’s senior national sales director. A Mississippian, Landrum is a former member of the Mississippi College Board of Trustees.

Anderson serves as a panelist on Mississippi Public Broadcasting’s weekly radio program “Money Talks.” Perkins led planning and directed the Mississippi Insurance Department’s Licensing Division before joining Mississippi College as a business professor in late August.

Wednesday’s summit is another in a series of informative programs that MC’s School of Business offers to the region’s economic community, Eduardo said.

“We have offered expertise in areas such as business and healthcare, entrepreneurship and family ownership,” Eduardo said. “Now we are creating a conversation about personal finance and how it is affected by public policy.”

Such programs at Mississippi College, he said, “help the School of Business fulfill its role as an important resource to the business community and to our regional base at large.”
