Music Camp at Mississippi College Prepared to Welcome 60 Students

Students from Texas, Louisiana and across the Magnolia State will study voice, receive an introduction to the pipe organ, and get personal instruction from some of the finest musicians around.

It’s all happening at Mississippi College’s residential summer music camp on the Clinton campus. The MC Music Department’s 2015 camp is designed for students in grades seven through 12.

New reports show 45 students signed up by early May, and applications will likely be accepted through mid-June. Typically about 60 students sign up for the camp each year.

The MC Department of Music program charges $450 for tuition and that includes on-campus housing and meals for the week-long camp. Music professor Bob Knupp will return as the camp director.

It’s always a hectic, fun-filled and educational week. Teens get ample opportunities to develop their musical talents, learn to improvise, perform in a show on stage and make new friends.

The Mississippians signed up are from Clinton, Jackson, Hattiesburg, Brandon, Brookhaven, Starkville, Saltillo, and Tupelo, to name a few of the cities. Gabi Jones of Clinton, daughter of MC history instructor Missy Jones, is among the area kids returning.

Known as the MC @MC, the camp runs from June 28 through July 3.
