North American Mission Board Leader Delivers Evangelism Lectures

Ken Weathersby
Ken Weathersby, a leader with the North American Mission Board in Atlanta, will be the keynote speaker during a series of appearances at Mississippi College in early February.

Dr. Weathersby will also serve as guest lecturer at the Evangelism Lectures Feb. 1-2, beginning at Anderson Hall East at 7 p.m. There will be time for a question and answer session with students. The event is open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

An MC graduate, Weathersby serves vice president of the organization's church planting group. He previously served the group as senior director of the mission board's equipping team. He will speak at the 10:50 a.m. chapel program Feb. 2 at First Baptist Church in Clinton.

Weathersby will also deliver two more lectures that afternoon - at 1 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m. Students, faculty and the public are invited.

The North American Mission Board assists Southern Baptists in their task of fulfilling the Great Commission in the United States, Canada and their territories. Sharing Christ and starting churches are a big part of the group's mission.

The Jackson, Mississippi native also served as a national missionary in his role as Nehemiah Project director, worked as a professor at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and was state evangelism director for the Tennessee Baptist Convention. He is the founding pastor of the Douglas Avenue Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.

The NAMB leader and his wife, Belva Kennedy Weathersby, have two children, a daughter, Kenyeta and a son, Breon.

Weathersby also received a master of divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and doctor of ministry at Reformed Theological Seminary.

On Feb. 9, another Mississippi College graduate, Clint Purvis, will speak at MC's chapel program at First Baptist Church Clinton. Purvis serves as chaplain for the Florida State University Seminoles football team. FSU recently defeated West Virginia in the Gator Bowl in the final game for legendary coach Bobby Bowden, who is now retired.
