Professor Willoughby Presents October 29 Recital

A Mississippi College music faculty member whose piano recitals have won over audiences from the South to London, Angela Willoughby will perform on the Clinton campus Oct. 29.

The Rayville, La. native will deliver the Mississippi Humanities Council lecture/recital that Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the Jean Pittman Williams Recital Hall in Aven Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Willoughby received her bachelor's degree and master of music degree in piano performance at Mississippi College. She studied piano with Ralph Taylor. A member of the Mc faculty for a decade, she received a doctor of musical arts degree from Louisiana State University.

She's also taught on the faculty at Grambling State University and Belhaven College. The MC professor is active with the Mississippi Music Teacher's Association, including service as president.

Along with fellow MC music professor James Sclater, who plays clarinet, Willoughby is a member of the Lyricas chamber duo that plays concerts in the region. They recently performed at the 76th annual meeting of the Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities on the Clinton campus. The two MC professors have also performed at an international clarinet festival in New Orleans. Willoughby has also recorded Sclater's complete works for solo piano.

In the summer of 2001, Willoughby performed at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London. It is the parish church for the British royal family.

Dr. Willoughby has a son, Charlie, who is majoring in cello performance at the University of Louisville.
