Spring Trip Tour to China Awaits Mississippi College Travelers

Travelers will experience the Great Wall of China, the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Jade Buddha Temple in Shanghai and much more.

Mississippi College leaders continue to sign up guests to go along for the 2017 Spring Break ride thousands of miles from home. The March 9-17 journey is being billed as an amazing Far East Adventure to China.

At the moment, there’s room for ten more travelers with a mid-September deadline approaching.

Beth Stapleton, who chairs MC’s Department of Modern Languages, is teaming with China native Lingshan Song, assistant director of the university’s Writing Center, to lead the group overseas.

“We will see the best that China has to offer, stay in amazing places, and enjoy new culture and experiences,” Stapleton says.

The trip is open to Mississippi College students, faculty, staff, alumni and community friends. Travelers may select courses for college credit or participate as non-credit enrollees.

Either way, the fun starts Thursday March 9 when the group departs from Medgar Wiley Evers-Jackson International Airport for the overnight flight to Beijing.

There’s so much on their to-do list – from experiencing a Peking Duck dinner to taking part in a local tea ceremony to a tour of Beijing by rickshaw. A flight to Shanghai will bring visitors to the fabulous Yu Yuan Garden, and a stop atop the city’s massive World Financial Center. At a height of 1,555 feet, the fantastic view from the observation deck shouldn’t be missed!

What’s the price?

It will be $3,850 per person for a double room. People rooming alone will pay $790 more. The first 33 travelers making a nonrefundable $550 deposit will be selected for the tour. Checks payable to MC should be mailed to the university’s Office of Continuing Education, Box 4031, Clinton, MS 39058.

MC-led trips during Spring Break focused on Europe for many years. But this switch to East Asia sounds like it’s a wonderful place to be for Spring breakers. “It is time to venture out a bit,” Stapleton says.

Mississippi College is already a popular destination for international students. MC enrolls more than 500 international students from more than two dozen nations. Many of the students at the Baptist-affiliated university based in Clinton are natives of countries like India and China.
