Tim Fritts Strengthens Mississippi College Athletics Fund Drives

Tim Fritts seeks to build relationships with thousands of alumni and reach out to corporate leaders to boost fundraising for Mississippi College athletic programs.

A 45-year-old Jackson native, Fritts went to work on the Clinton campus on March 9. The Madison resident brings two decades of sports marketing experience with four universities in the Magnolia State.

MC Athletic Director Mike Jones recently announced his appointment as assistant athletic director for development.

“Tim Fritts will be a valuable asset to Mississippi College as the chief fundraiser for MC Choctaws’ athletics programs,” Jones said.

The Mississippi native “brings plenty of corporate experience and will do a tremendous job as MC transitions to NCAA Division II and rejoins the Gulf South Conference,” Jones added. “We believe he will work well with alumni and friends to continue to strengthen fund-raising efforts for our athletic department.”

It’s an exciting time to be at Mississippi College as the 5,000-student university transitions to NCAA Division II and renews longtime sports rivalries with such GSC schools as Delta State, West Alabama, Valdosta State and North Alabama, Fritts said. “Division II opens up a whole new world.”

He’s thankful to be part of the MC Choctaw family.

“The opportunity to come to work for Mississippi College athletics is a huge blessing for me and my family,” Fritts said. “I have always enjoyed working with college athletics and coming to MC allows me to continue to do just that.”

With an office at the A.E. Wood Coliseum filling up with sports memorabilia including Choctaws footballs from games dating back to the 1920s, Fritts will help raise money for sports facilities and other athletic needs.

A brighter USA economy may help Fritts and others raising funds at universities nationwide.“Every little bit helps. A better economy is opening doors.”

One of the major events on his plate is the Christian university’s alumni golf tournament on May 22. The MC Sports Hall of Fame induction dinner on the Clinton campus in April is also marked on his calendar.

A 1992 University of Mississippi graduate, Fritts was raised in Indianola, Mississippi and Arlington, Virginia. He played football and was a member of the track team as a student at Yorktown High School in Virginia. Tim’s father was a longtime radio broadcaster.

His employment history includes working 20 years in sports marketing with Telesouth Communications of Jackson. In that capacity, Fritts worked at various times with schools like Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss and Jackson State.

Family and church remain a big part of his life.

Fritts and his wife, Tracy, a dietician at St. Dominic Hospital in Jackson, are the parents of a daughter, Katherine, 14, and a son, Will, 12. They are members of Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison.

“The Good Lord opened a few doors and paved the way for me to come to Mississippi College,” Fritts said. “He’s looking out for me.”
