Instructor/Assistant Professor of Digital and New Media - Department of Communication
Mississippi College is looking for a committed Christian professional communication instructor/assistant professor to work within an academic setting where they can pour their lives into their students and see them grow spiritually, academically and professionally to make a difference in the current and future media world. Successful applicant must be PhD, or ABD considered, from an accredited graduate university.
Responsibilities:
Existing position vacancy for an individual with strong journalism and digital media background. They must have experience in video journalism as well as social media journalism. The position answers directly to the Chair of the Communication Department. Responsibilities include teaching 4 classes per semester in journalism and/or digital media, advising graduate and undergraduate majors, and other responsibilities as needed. Classes will include Journalism I, Journalism II, Reporting and Interviewing, Journalism Ethics, Writing for Periodicals/Social Media, Graduate Communication Research, and Graduate Seminar in Journalism. Additionally, the successful candidate will advise and direct all activities related to The Collegian (Mississippi College student-edited bi-weekly newspaper). The successful candidate will serve on departmental and campus-wide committees as determined by the department chair, dean, and provost.
Opportunities:
This position works directly with students in an academic classroom setting and also non-academic interaction. It is a 9-month, tenure track position, with the possibility of summer employment as available. As a result of the changing media landscape, this position is a wonderful opportunity to create new environments for students interested in media messaging and will impact their lives in ways that are yet to be realized.
