Assistant Professor and Director of Social Studies Education - Department of History and Political Science

The Department of History and Political Science at Mississippi College is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of History to direct the Social Studies Education program, beginning in the Fall 2022 semester. A Ph.D. in History, with specialization in world or European history, is preferred. A doctorate in Education with a Master’s degree in History will be considered. A candidate with only a Master’s degree in History will be considered for a non-tenure track position. Candidates with degree in hand will receive priority consideration. The Social Studies Education program director will teach Social Studies Methods, Geography, and History courses. The successful candidate will also supervise student teachers in cooperation with K-12 teachers in schools across the Jackson metro area. The program director will train students in pedagogy, work with colleagues in the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership, write reports for state and national accreditation, and collaborate with outside organizations. Other faculty responsibilities include a normal teaching load of four courses per semester, student advising, curriculum and program development, participation in departmental, college, and university governance structures, and active involvement in scholarly activities.
