Revised Academic Calendar • Fall 2020

Dear Student,

We can’t wait to welcome you back to Mississippi College in August. Our beautiful campus isn’t the same without the energy and enthusiasm your physical presence brings to MC.

The Fall Opening Task Force has been studying the best ways to safely resume on-campus operations. Two key concerns include the potential for another wave of COVID-19 infections in late fall/early winter, and the risk that travel by students and faculty during breaks could increase the chances of exposure when travelers return to campus.

To address these concerns, MC has revised the academic calendar for the fall 2020 semester. The main differences you’ll notice are that the semester will begin one week earlier and will end before Thanksgiving.

Revised Academic Calendar • Fall 2020

  • August 8 - Meal Plans Begin/Staggered Move-in
  • August 11-16 - Orientation/Welcome Week
  • August 17 - Classes Begin
  • November 17 - Last Day of Classes
  • November 18-24 - Final Exams
  • November 28 - Move out of Residence Halls

Other Important Changes:

  • Labor Day and fall break holidays have been canceled. We are so sorry, but it’s a necessary change for safety reasons.
  • Fall Commencement will be postponed to coincide with Spring 2021 commencement.

While the semester will conclude in November, the time you’ll spend in classes will be almost the same given the early start and canceled fall break.

We understand these schedule changes may cause some inconvenience and require adjusted planning. We appreciate your flexibility as we do all we can to ensure your return to campus goes smoothly. Looking on the bright side, the revised calendar will not only help protect our MC community, but will also give you a longer period during which to enjoy the holiday season.

Over the summer, you’ll receive more information about new procedures we’ll put in place to keep you safe and healthy when you get back to MC.

We’re looking forward to seeing you on campus in August.
