The legislative powers of the Student Government Association are vested in the Student Senate. This distinguished body of 44 members is comprised of nine elected representatives from each academic class, the president of each academic class, two first-time incoming transfer students, and two international student senators. The purpose of Senate is to draft legislation to be brought before Student Senate and subsequently presented to administration if approved on the Senate floor. Addressing issues regarding all aspects of campus, Student Senate is a very distinguishing and rewarding way to make a difference on campus.
As Vice-President, my first and main focus is to ensure that every student at Mississippi College is being represented by SGA, allowing them to be actively involved in and informed of the decisions Senate generates, whether it be through conversation on campus or online polls and surveys. With this reality, I hope that, together with our peers, the Student Senate can work to make Mississippi College a better place, not only for current students, but for all students to come in the future.
If you are interested in getting involved in Senate, or if you have any ideas or suggestions for legislation, please let me know! Senate Elections take place each Spring semester for upperclassmen. Freshman and Transfer Senate elections take place at the beginning of each Fall semester. All international student Senators are appointed by the President of Senate. Senators serve for a full year.
