Fall Flavors

The onset of fall ushers in a coziness and warmth unlike any other time of year. The crispness in the air invites you to put on your favorite sweater and sip from a mug of hot chocolate, enjoying the change in weather and gearing up for holiday festivities. However, fall can be one of the busiest times of year for college students, and, when midterms are quickly followed by final exams, it can be difficult to pause long enough to full enjoy fall. Even so, college students can still partake in fall traditions from their dorm rooms, and it can be as simple as a snack.

A cold, fall day pairs perfectly with a mug filled with hot chocolate, coffee, cider, or tea. Fall flavors like pumpkin spice or cinnamon can be easily added to your choice of hot tea or coffee to celebrate the season. While coffee and tea are enjoyed year-round, hot beverages like apple cider and hot chocolate are more specific to the fall and winter months, and a mug of either is sure to make you “feel like fall.”

While traditional fall foods like apple pies and popcorn balls may be difficult to make in a dorm room, there are several accessible fall snack options for students to enjoy. A fall charcuterie board, for example, is the perfect addition to any fall or Friendsgiving celebration, Hallmark movie night, or dinner replacement. There is no “perfect” way to make a charcuterie board, and you can individualize each board to include your favorite foods, whether savory, sweet, or the perfect combination of both, and seasonal treats. It is common to add varieties of meats, cheese, fruits, and vegetables. If you are creating a fall-themed board, I would suggest adding small decorative pumpkins, including apples and caramel, and adding candy corn (of course!).

No matter how busy you are, there are ways to alter your daily routine to celebrate the onset of fall. So, pick the seasonal pumpkin spice creamer. Choose a mug of hot chocolate over your routine coffee. Soak in the beauty of this season by making small changes - starting with your food! Filling you favorite mug and sharing your personalized charcuterie board friends are two simple ways to celebrate fall as a college student. So, let’s get started!
