Random Testing Program
As part of MC’s continued commitment to monitor the ongoing health of the campus community, the university is conducting random weekly COVID-19 testing throughout the semester for asymptomatic students, faculty, and staff in the Random Testing Program.
Students and employees will be selected randomly and contacted by email to reserve a time for testing. Please look for the subject line in the email: Random Testing Program – You are Selected to Test.
The Sofia 2 SARS FIA is performed with a swab of your nasal passages to determine if you currently have an active COVID-19 infection.
Testing can be self-administered and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Testing will involve inserting a cotton swab into each nasal passage and rotating it against the inner nasal lining in a circle three times. The swab does not need to be inserted far – just enough so the cotton tip is no longer visible.
The swab is then placed into a collection tube with a bar code, which will be placed in a bag and then deposited into a cooler at the collection site.
It is an accurate point-of-care antigen test with same-day results.
FAQs
New
Because many individuals infected with COVID-19 are asymptomatic, one of the best ways to identify potential cases is to conduct surveillance testing regularly. This testing will help identify and respond to positive cases in the MC community. Taking these steps will help limit the spread of COVID-19 so that campus activities can continue.
New
The MSDH does not recommend retesting people who have recovered from COVID-19.
The antigen test could yield a positive result because fragments of the inactive virus may be present. But these individuals are not infectious.
Students who have previously tested positive for COVID-19 need to follow these steps:
- They are at least 2-weeks out from the positive test, with no symptoms for at least the past two days.
- Present a copy of the positive test documentation with the date and location information to the Campus Covid-19 Coordinator at COVID19@mc.edu.
- Retain the documentation in case they have any future re-occurrences of COVID-19.
- Antigen testing is not required for these students, and they can be excused.
If students do not have the paperwork for a prior COVID-19 event:
- Follow the protocols for antigen testing.
- If they get a positive result, we will require confirmation of the history and their paperwork to clear them from quarantine.
- The documentation is required ahead of move-in.

You do not need to report a negative test result from outside MC.
If you receive a positive result from outside MC, you must report that result to the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Hotline by calling 601-925-3030.
