Mississippi College Admissions team will be at the Southern Baptist Convention June 14-15.

Mississippi College alumni and school leaders will be among thousands of visitors attending the 2016 Southern Baptist Convention.

“Awaken America: Reach the World” will be the theme of the conference in St. Louis on June 14-15. The group is led by SBC President Ronnie Floyd. The SBC is a network of over 50,000 cooperating churches and church ministries. The SBC includes more than 15 million members.

About 40 to 50 graduates of the Baptist-affiliated university in Clinton are expected to stop by a two-hour reception on June 14 at the Convention Plaza. Admissions staffers, Vice President for Christian Development Eric Pratt, and Vice President for Advancement Bill Townsend and other school officials will join the group starting at 5 p.m.

The Tuesday evening reception is designed to reconnect Mississippi College alumni from the St. Louis metropolitan area of more than three million people. The event will give visitors an opportunity to hear about the latest developments at the 5,152-student university, while enjoying good food. The reception is scheduled at Rooms 260 & 267 on the convention center’s second level.

Earlier Tuesday, SBC visitors are invited to a panel discussion focused on promoting racial unity across the nation. Among the panelists: Rev. Jerry Young, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson. Young serves as president of the National Baptist Convention, USA. With 7.5 million members, the group represents the nation’s largest African-American religious convention.

Mississippi College graduates and friends are invited to gather for another major event on Saturday June 18. They will travel to Washington D.C. for the 26th annual Mississippi on the Mall picnic. The event will run from 3-7 p.m. at the Henry Bacon ballfields at the northeast corner of the Lincoln Memorial. There will be lots of delicious Mississippi catfish and sweet tea served along with the sounds of live music filling the air.
