Mississippi College Sponsors Marriage Conference

Commercials on Jackson radio stations tell the story of a married couple spending their date night at their usual hangout - a grocery store. It's no fun and a case of zero communication.

Seeking to put some zest back in the lives of busy husbands and wives is the Family Life's Weekend to Remember conference in Jackson.

The April 30-May 2 event at the Jackson Marriott Downtown is sponsored by Baptist-affiliated Mississippi College and the Mississippi Marriage Covenant.

The conference is seen as a chance to get away from life's many distractions. Cell phones must be turned off. Long to-do lists are tossed out the window.

Speakers at the conference will help participants work out differences, improve communication and rekindle romance. The conference isn't just for marriages on the rocks. It is meant to heighten even the best marriages.

One of the sponsors, the Mississippi Marriage Covenant was founded in 1996 to strengthen marriages across the Magnolia State. The group seeks to enhance churches' ability to nurture marriages in those congregations.

The cost for the conference is $89 per person for those who register online. The hotel cost is $79 per night. About 500 people are expected to attend.
