Online Masters in Higher Education at Mississippi College Receives Strong Ranking

Lisa Rittenhouse and Beth Turner McDaniel, recruiters at Jones County Junior College, are both graduates of MC's on-line master's in higher education administration.

Living in Atlanta, Katie Kennedy worked full-time, while utilizing online discussions to receive her master’s at Mississippi College.

Earning her degree at MC’s online higher education program proved to be pretty convenient, while she worked hundreds of miles from the Clinton campus. As a result, Kennedy picked up the tools she needed to enhance her job skills at Emory University’s School of Nursing.

“I feel like I have more to contribute to strategic discussions both within our office and school/division wide,” says Kennedy, the institution’s director of financial aid and student success.

Katie believes in Mississippi College’s online higher education administration program that’s ranked No. 19 nationwide this fall by BestColleges.com

The strong USA ranking backs up what Kennedy already knows. MC’s program, says the Ridgeland, Mississippi native, is top-notch.

“I liked how the instructors used various mediums to have the class interact together online throughout the week,” Kennedy said.

Kennedy received her bachelor’s in communication at MC in 20011 and master’s in higher education at the Christian university in 2012.

BestColleges.com gave Mississippi College better ratings than such bigger schools as No. 20 Eastern Michigan University, and No. 21 Central Michigan University.

The survey looked at MC’s curriculum that focuses on higher education’s financial picture, its complex laws and student development theories. Students can complete the degree in 18 months.

MC leaders are delighted to learn about the positive national feedback.

“With the building of online degree programs comes the responsibility of providing a quality program,” says Graduate School Dean Debbie Norris. “This recognition is an affirmation of what we are doing at MC in upholding our mission of academic excellence.”

A pair of Jones County Junior College recruiters say their MC studies helped them advance in their careers.

Beth Turner McDaniel, 27, of Hattiesburg, and Lisa Rittenhouse, 27, of Ellisville are graduates of MC’s online master’s in higher education administration.

“We chose MC’s on-line higher education program for the convenience of balancing our careers, while furthering our education,” Rittenhouse said. “The classes and instructors were very challenging.”

Norris joins a superb team of MC vice presidents and other administrators serving as the program’s instructors. That’s a huge benefit to on-line graduate students, says Ron Howard, vice president for academic affairs. “They are bringing their expertise to bear in areas of teaching they know the most about and live every day.”
