VOCES8 Plays Mississippi College Concert Feb. 19

VOCES8
VOCES8 will bring its mix of jazz, classical, spiritual and pop music sounds to Mississippi College for a Feb. 19 concert to celebrate the 150th birthday of Provine Chapel.

An internationally celebrated a cappella group, the eight-member team of British singers is part of a year-long tribute to MC's oldest building.

This is the fourth in a series of concerts to spotlight the chapel that was built in 1859-1860. Soon after opening, it was used as a hospital for the wounded troops of Northern Gen. Ulysses S. Grant during the Civil War and as a stable for his horses.

MC crowds will enjoy the sounds of VOCES8. The group has entertained audiences across Europe for years and received superb reviews. The group's new album ACES HIGH will be released in early February.

For those who want a sneak preview, the group from England will perform January 30 at St. Cloud University in Minneapolis, Minnesota and appears in London Jan. 15 before making the trip to Mississippi.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. concert on the Clinton campus will cost $20 for adults and $10 for students.

The final concert in the series will be at Provine Chapel April 6. The spring Hymn Festival will feature the MC Singers led by choral director James Meaders. The evening performance figures to be a joyful celebration of God's love. The concert is based on the theme: "Oh God, Our Help in Ages Past, Our Hope for Years to Come." The 7:30 p.m. performance is free.

The concert series included the Festival of Lights Dec. 3-5 that helped usher in the Christmas season on the Clinton campus. The 55-member MC Singers led the festival celebration.
