Chase Porter Received Byrd Memorial Preaching Award

Chase Porter, a junior majoring in Christian Studies and Philosophy, received the Byrd Memorial Preaching Award for the second year in a row.

The Byrd Memorial Preaching Award is a cash award presented annually by the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. David Q. Byrd, Sr., loyal supporters of Mississippi College since 1930. The award is presented annually to the student who submits the winning expository sermon as adjudicated by a committee consisting of the chairman of the MC Department of Christian Studies and Philosophy, an MC English professor, an MC Communication professor, an MC student, and the Pastor of First Baptist Church Clinton. Names of the students are anonymous to the committee during their evaluation.

Only twice in its history has the Byrd Memorial Preaching Award been presented to the same student. John Maley was the first, winning the award in 2005 and 2006.
